Let's just say I was glad this big bug (I think it is a praying mantis) was on the outside of our window. Oran and Lucy really enjoyed watching him/her (any bug experts let me know) for the afternoon. I would say she was at least 6 inches long. I don't think I have ever seen a bug this big in the wild (i.e. not at the zoo).Sunday, October 4, 2009

Let's just say I was glad this big bug (I think it is a praying mantis) was on the outside of our window. Oran and Lucy really enjoyed watching him/her (any bug experts let me know) for the afternoon. I would say she was at least 6 inches long. I don't think I have ever seen a bug this big in the wild (i.e. not at the zoo).

Yep, a praying mantis. That is a big one. Kris was showing Mia a little one and it jumped on her and climbed up her face to her head. Needless to say, it scared her pretty good. :)
Oh wow. Yeah, I would have also been glad it was outside. My brother-in-law is in an entomology class, so for one assignment he had to collect bugs, butterflies, and spiders to take to class. Oh my. The way to nicely kill them apparently is to put them in the freezer (in containers). They were see-through plastic containers though, so that made getting the frozen chicken out the freezer definitely undelightful. Eugh.
